Sat-domes

Sat-domes from Camos, German engineering at it’s finest.
These domes are self seeking satellite system’s which come in various sizes and can also track satellite’s whilst you are on the move.

The sat-domes are very practical, as there is very little setting up involved and are simple to use. Please note that if height is an issue then the 30cm dome should be ordered, but for improved performance and for very little extra cost then the 40cm dome is well worth the extra money.

A huge advantage of any satellite equipment is crystal clear pictures, but you must remember that if a tree or building is blocking the signal then you will not get a picture full stop.

Not only are the sat-domes attractive in comparison to a large dish stuck up on top of your motorhome/caravan etc, but they can also be used in high winds with out the risk of damage to the dish or the vehicle. Another huge advantage of the sat-dome is that they need a small diameter of clear space to be fixed to only 70cm.

Satellite Dishes [back to top]

There are several different types of satelite dishes that can be used. From touring kits to semi-auto systems to full blown self seeking satelite dishes.

Touring kits and manual satellite TV dishes are a good cheap way of picking up satelite signals, but from personal experience I know that they can be time consuming and require a fair bit of patience and perseverance to set up. Once set-up they offer as good a reception as any other dish, as long as nobody moves the dish and stand!! I managed to get a signal all the way into Italy by Milan with a 45cm dish.

Touring Kits with sat-finder cost £110.00
Manual Systems costs start at £118.99 and tripod’s, magnetic mounts and mast can be purchased. Please phone for more details and costs.

You will also need a receiver, you can purchase one from us or use any receiver, even yours from home.

Automatic and semi-automatic

I can supply and install automatic and semi-automatic systems. I use the Alden Brand, which is a leading and well-established manufacture from France. All their dishes come with a vent system and “fuse”. The vent allows wind resistance to be dropped. If the dish is left up in strong winds then the “fuse “ will give out before damage to the dish or vehicle can occur, the fuse can then be replaced cheaply and easily.

Their products range from a 65cm dish semi-automatic system to a full-blown self-seeking 85cm dish. Some of their products also come with a free to air receiver, which allows you to view free programs from various satellites.

There is one draw back with any dish, if you are limited for space on top of your vehicle then maybe a sat-dome is for you. The dishes when not in use must fold down flat and require a bit of space for this. When in use a 65cm dish will typically require a roof space of approximately 125cm diameter and a 85cm dish will typically require a space of approximately 165 cm diameter. Consider the space available to you before purchasing a dish that will not be able to operate correctly.

If you need a receiver, you can purchase one from us or use any receiver, even yours from home.

Semi-automatic systems are basically a dish on a pole that you rotate by hand but adjust the elevation and fold the dish away by means of an electric motor. You will also require a sat-finder. The picture quality and signal strength can be as good any other system but has the disadvantage of having to set the dish manually, this is great if you have a good sat-finder and a little patience.

Onematic automatic satellite systems are automatic dishes which use a remote control panel to search for different satellites (a satellite positioner) and then a receiver which comes with this dish, allows you to watch free to air channels on a variety of different satellites.

Orbiter and Skymatic Automatic satellite systems are fully automotive systems that use a receiver/controller to access several satellites like Astra 1, Astra 2(SKY) and Hotbird. The receiver that comes with this system allows you to watch Free to Air channels including BBC and ITV. If required a SKY digibox can also be connected to these systems, this will allow you to watch subscription channels.

These are both excellent products with various dish sizes available. The Skymatic systems come with more powerful motors, which will give you quicker location speed and ruggedness.

All systems below include Aldens Free to Air receiver.

Orbiter satellite system with 65cm dish £1279.00
Orbiter satellite system with 85cm dish £1299.00
Skymatic satellite system with 65cm dish £1599.00
Skymatic satellite system with 85cm dish £1629.00

IIf space is not an issue then for very little extra cost the 85cm dish can offer a better reception if you are on the edge of a satellite footprint, but remember the bigger the dish the greater the wind resistance.

Satellite receivers [back to top]

Satellite receivers

Once you have your satellite dish or dome then you will require a receiver.

There are a few options available to yourselves; if you have a receiver at home then I can set this up for you with quick release plugs so it can be quickly un-plugged and installed in your vehicle.

If a receiver is required then there are many products on the market. The two main receivers that I sell and recommend are: -

  1. 12volt pace sky receiver
  2. Technomate products for the people who wish to watch other satellites other than sky.

The Pace sky receiver will allow you to watch all the free channels that are broadcasted by SKY. If you wish to subscribe then the various packages that SKY offer are open to you. A popular option is to purchase a FreeSat card from SKY which allows you to watch channel 4 & 5 plus various other channels. The FreeSat card cost’s approximately £20.00 and is simple and easy to register, I will always help if required.

The Technomate receiver that I use allows you to watch free view programs from various satellites including the SKY, Hotbird, Hispasat etc. This receiver really open’s up the use off any of the satellite equipment.

I personally use two receivers in my motorhome, I remove my SKY box from home with the aid of quick release connections(I can set this up with a home visit, further details in services). The use of the SKY box from home allows me to use my subscription service. The second receiver I use is the Techomate, as mentioned above this allows me to watch hundreds of more channels, so on those rainy days when stuck in doors it can never be said that there is now’t to watch!
